Why fixed pricing matters to us.
We publish real numbers, not a "call for a quote" teaser. Standard trade paint and labour are included in every quoted price, with no inflated call-out fees or hidden extras. If a job comes in more than the benchmark guide suggests - which happens more often on Margate's older seafront properties than it would inland - we tell you why before we start, not after.

Margate Painter is a small decorating outfit focused entirely on domestic work. No subcontracted crews you've never met - the person who visits to quote the job is the person doing the work.
Why Margate's coastline changes the job.
The Old Town and the seafront's Georgian and Regency terraces are close enough to the water that salt-laden air is a real factor indoors, not just out - it finds damp behind old wallpaper faster, and it's harder on original sash window joinery than anything you'd see a few miles inland. Lime-plastered walls need to breathe; sealing them behind a modern emulsion traps damp rather than solving it. Around Turner Contemporary and the wider seafront regeneration, we're increasingly working on flats and guesthouses that have been through a recent renovation and need a cleaner, more contemporary finish rather than period treatment. Further out toward Garlinge, Westgate-on-Sea and Birchington, it's more straightforward 1930s and estate housing without the coastal complications.
How we quote.
Photos of the room over WhatsApp or email are usually enough for a firm price against our benchmark guide. On period properties or larger jobs we come out for a look before quoting. Quotes are fixed price - if we find something unexpected once we start (damp behind old wallpaper, movement cracks that need proper filling), we flag it, price it separately, and agree it with you before continuing.
